Exciting Update: Steven Spielberg’s Upcoming Event Film Scheduled for June 2026; Daniels’ Next Project Currently on Hold

Steven Spielberg’s next big movie with Universal has a new release date. It will now hit theaters on June 12, 2026, which is a shift from the original date of May 15. This date was previously reserved for the upcoming untitled film by directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

The duo is known for their work on the award-winning film Everything Everywhere All at Once, which was a huge success, grossing over $143 million worldwide. Their new film is still developing and will be announced soon, as they take the necessary time to perfect it.

As for Spielberg’s movie, details about its plot are still under wraps, but there are talks that it may involve UFOs. The June release aligns it with less competition, sharing the weekend with the reboot of Scary Movie. It will come out just before Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5 and after Amazon’s Masters of the Universe.

Originally, Spielberg’s film would have faced stiff competition. The earlier date meant it would be sandwiched between the new Avengers: Doomsday movie and a Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu.

This anticipated project stars a talented cast, including Josh O’Connor, known for The Crown; Emily Blunt from Oppenheimer; and Colman Domingo, who earned acclaim for Rustin. Colin Firth, an Oscar winner, and Eve Hewson also join the lineup. Kristie Macosko Krieger is producing for Amblin Entertainment.
