Exciting Updates from Dr. Davies: Discover What’s Happening on Campus and Our New Initiatives!

UNMC’s Interim Chancellor, Dr. Dele Davies, recently shared updates on improving university processes and expectations for employee pay raises. He introduced Matt Singh, the new director of Lean and process improvement, and highlighted their commitment to enhancing efficiency.

Dr. Davies noted that the current processes often waste time and effort for faculty, staff, and students. To address this, they launched the Better Processes Initiative. Singh emphasized the importance of “Lean Six Sigma”—a method that reduces waste and ensures reliable outcomes.

“There’s a lot of room for improvement,” Dr. Davies said, aiming to boost employee satisfaction as a primary goal. Singh is developing a training program to spread these principles across the campus, ensuring everyone is equipped to make meaningful changes.

In a recent Twitter poll, over 70% of university staff expressed optimism about potential improvements in workplace efficiency, reflecting a growing interest in revitalizing campus operations.

Dr. Davies also confirmed that university employees can expect pay raises this year, although the timeline may depend on the budget process following tuition discussions in June.

Other announcements from Dr. Davies included:

  • A “For the Greater Good” event from April 22 to 23, featuring a unique “Chancellor’s Push-Up Challenge.”
  • Over 250 registrants for the upcoming AI in Health Conference 2026, focused on future healthcare innovations.
  • A successful visit by congressional representatives to discuss UNMC’s efforts in bio and medical preparedness.
  • Recognition for advancements towards compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
  • Highlights from a recent trip to various Nebraska towns to strengthen ties with high schools.

All these initiatives aim to foster a better working and learning environment at UNMC, illustrating a proactive approach to modernize and enhance the university’s culture.
