Exciting Updates: La Salle University Unveils 2025 Commencement Ceremonies and Inspiring Speakers

La Salle University is gearing up to honor its class of 2025 with exciting commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Graduates, family, and friends will gather at McCarthy Stadium to celebrate. There will be two ceremonies: one for undergraduates at 10 a.m. and another for graduate students at 4 p.m.

One of the highlights will be the honorary degree awarded to Bishop Joseph L. Coffey, a La Salle alumnus from the class of ’82. Known for his dedication to the spiritual needs of military members and their families, Coffey’s journey started in Rochester, Minnesota, before he found his way to Philadelphia. A double major in English and French, he even spent a year studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. As a full-time Navy chaplain since 2001, Coffey has traveled the world, supporting military personnel and was appointed an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of the Military Services by Pope Francis in 2019.

Adding to the celebrations, finance major Alexis Sanchez, a first-generation college student, will deliver the student address. Known for her vibrant spirit, she has spent three years bringing joy to the university community while dressed as the La Salle Explorer mascot. Her story of resilience is sure to inspire her peers.

The graduate commencement address will be presented by Sister Isabella “Bella” Davila, who is a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. Sister Bella’s dedication to serving vulnerable populations, such as those facing homelessness and mental health challenges, shines through her role as a behavioral health coordinator at Face to Face Germantown in Philadelphia. After graduation, she will continue her impactful work with DePaul USA in Georgia.

These ceremonies not only mark a significant achievement for the students but also showcase the diverse paths and contributions of La Salle’s community members. As the university continues to support students from various backgrounds, it reflects broader trends in education highlighting the increasing importance of accessibility and inclusion, especially for first-generation college students.
