Exciting Updates on Campus Renovations: West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Jackson Addresses Vienna City Council

VIENNA — During a recent meeting, the Vienna City Council discussed the ongoing renovation of the old Ohio Valley University campus, now being transformed by West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

The update, presented by WVUP President Tori Jackson and Wood County Economic Development Authority Executive Director Lindsey Piersol, highlighted the project’s progress. They shared photos showcasing various stages of the renovation, which has faced some delays due to rainy weather. However, they remain optimistic about starting classes by mid-August, as planned.

The renovation involves significant work, including interior upgrades and replacing 460 windows and 32 exterior doors. While the community grand opening has been pushed back slightly, it’s now set for mid-October.

In another part of the meeting, the council approved several bids:
– **Deicing salt** from Compass Minerals at $111.37 per ton delivered and $105 per ton if picked up.
– **Street concrete replacement** with Jimmie Harper Construction’s bid for $30 per square foot for concrete and $20 for subgrade replacement.
– **Asphalt needs** approved from Affordable Asphalt Main.
– **Ready-mix concrete** from Smith Concrete at $149 per cubic yard and $180 for flowable fill.

Overall, these updates signal a commitment to improving the city’s infrastructure. As local governments nationwide focus on economic development, it’s crucial to invest in education and essential services.

The next Vienna City Council meeting will take place on July 24 at 6 p.m.
