Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Production Update
Titagarh Rail Systems is on track to complete the first set of car bodies for the Vande Bharat Sleeper train by March 31. This project, in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), aims to produce a total of 80 trainsets, with each set containing 16 coaches.
Umesh Chowdhary, the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Titagarh Rail Systems, stated that production is already underway. He expects the first rake, or set, of train cars to be finished by the end of this financial year. “We’re making good progress,” he said. The goal is to roll out the first train by the end of this calendar year.
The Indian Ministry of Railways awarded the sleeper train contract to three companies, including Titagarh Rail Systems and BHEL. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train running between Howrah and Kamakhya was launched in January 2026 and was developed by BEML, using technology from Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory.
