The Railway Board is making exciting changes to Vande Bharat trains. They’ve decided to add more coaches to trains on seven busy routes. This upgrade comes in response to high passenger numbers and aims to improve the travel experience.
The chosen routes are:
- Mangaluru Central–Thiruvananthapuram Central
- Secunderabad–Tirupati
- Chennai Egmore–Tirunelveli
- Madurai–Bengaluru Cantt
- Deoghar–Varanasi
- Howrah–Rourkela
- Indore–Nagpur
Currently, some of these routes operate with four 8-coach trains and three 16-coach trains. Soon, the 16-coach trains will grow to 20 coaches, and the 8-coach ones will increase to 16 coaches. As Dilip Kumar from the Railway Board noted, this move aims to better match train capacity with passenger demand.
The upgrades are based on occupancy data for the financial year 2025-26. With these figures, the Board plans to expand the number of 20-coach trains. For example, they expect to change three of the current 16-coach routes to 20, while the remaining routes will see 8-coach trains upgraded to 16-coach ones.
Moreover, there’s a growing trend in rail travel. A survey conducted in 2022 indicated that more than 70% of passengers prefer Vande Bharat trains for their speed and comfort. This shift in preference highlights the increasing demand for efficient train services in India.
Overall, these enhancements suggest a clear response to rising passenger numbers and a commitment to improving rail travel in the country. As these new changes roll out, many travelers are excited about better capacity and comfort on their journeys. For more information, you can check the official Railway Board announcements here.
