Quincy, Illinois — The John Wood Community College Board met on Monday to discuss upgrades for the physical science labs at their Quincy campus.
The board approved a bid of about $1,567,000 from Maas Construction. This will fund the renovation of four science labs and improvements to the restrooms in the Science and Technology Center.
With input from science faculty, the new lab designs will create interactive and flexible spaces. This will enhance the learning experience for students taking important courses like Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, and Physics. These subjects are key for students pursuing careers in healthcare, engineering, and other professional fields.
“This renovation is an investment in our students’ learning environment and in the region’s future workforce,” said JWCC President Dr. Bryan Renfro. “The students who use these labs are training to be nurses, physical therapists, engineers, and more. They need top-notch facilities to succeed in their studies and future careers. This project goes beyond construction; it’s a commitment to our most valuable resource—our students.”
Construction will kick off this summer, aiming for completion by Fall 2025.
