New Delhi: Indian Railways has undergone significant changes in the past decade, especially under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Major improvements include complete electrification of railway tracks and revamped platforms aimed at enhancing passenger experiences. The introduction of modern trains like Vande Bharat has been part of this transformation.
This month, Prime Minister Modi unveiled the 272-kilometer Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link in Jammu & Kashmir, ensuring all-weather connectivity for the region. Along with this project, he inaugurated the Chenab and Anji Khad railway bridges and announced two new Vande Bharat train services.
From June 7, 2025, passengers will enjoy regular services on these new trains, enhancing travel options to Kashmir.
Exciting news is also on the horizon for those traveling between Kolhapur and Mumbai. A new Vande Bharat train is set to commence service soon, addressing the high demand in this corridor. Currently, there are limited train options between these two cities, creating challenges for many commuters.
Key details about the new service include:
- Expected launch within two weeks.
- The train will have eight coaches and accommodate 550 passengers.
- It is planned to run three days a week: Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- There is a growing need for this service as local businesses and workers have expressed their frustrations regarding the lack of direct train connections to Mumbai.
This move is supported by Railway Advisory Committee member Shivnath Biyani, who emphasized the demand for the Kolhapur-Mumbai link at a recent meeting. As of now, the only Vande Bharat service available operates between Kolhapur and Pune.
In recent discussions across social media platforms, passengers have shown their eagerness for increased train services. Data from a recent survey indicated that over 60% of respondents would prefer train travel due to its affordability and convenience compared to other options like buses or cars. This trend highlights the increasing reliance on railways for long-distance travel in India.
