I’m a bit shocked that we haven’t seen more leaks from the NDA-protected Marathon Alpha. Legal threats really do keep things under wraps. This makes me think that Bungie might have benefited from this approach during their last Alpha, as it could have saved them from some negative attention.
One Twitter user, @itsrocksiza, who claims not to have signed an NDA, shared some insights. He received a request from Bungie to delete some images he had, which he did out of goodwill. Though I won’t share those images, I will highlight some interesting details he mentioned.
First, the graphics look significantly better now. The outdoor environments appear more vibrant, with improved lighting and detail since the last Alpha. There’s even a scene showing blue blood pooling in water after a character’s death—reminding players of cinematic moments. Bungie seems to have addressed feedback by introducing enemy corpses instead of them just disappearing.
Additionally, here are some cool new features in this Alpha:
- Black Market: Players can trade higher-tier materials for lower ones.
- Map Legend: It now clearly marks locations for anomalies and bosses.
- New Sniper: A weapon called the V99 channel rifle, similar in style to the sniper in Team Fortress 2.
- Resurrection Timers: These have been extended, giving players a bit more strategic playtime.
- Medic Runner: This character can deploy a healing drone for teammates and drop health kits, reminiscent of Apex Legends‘ Lifeline.
It sounds like Bungie is seriously focused on making improvements based on player feedback. While this information isn’t all-encompassing, it offers a glimpse into the ongoing development process. Bungie has hinted at more tests ahead, though details on how these will play out remain unclear. A new release date hasn’t been provided either, but they’re aiming for a launch this fall, likely before March 2025.
In the gaming community, excitement is building as fans await changes and the chance to test the game further. Let’s see if all these improvements can positively impact Marathon‘s success.
