The NCAA recently released the top 16 seeds that will host the first rounds of the women’s basketball tournament. Here’s the list of the hosting teams: Duke, Iowa, Louisville, LSU, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, TCU, Texas, UCLA, UConn, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia.
Key teams like UConn, UCLA, Texas, and South Carolina are expected to be top seeds. UConn stands out as the only unbeaten team in Division I women’s basketball with a record of 34-0. They aim for their seventh perfect season and 13th national title.
North Carolina turned things around by winning 12 of its last 13 games and reaching the ACC tournament semifinals. Meanwhile, West Virginia secured their spot by winning the Big 12 tournament final against TCU. This is significant for West Virginia, as they last hosted an NCAA tournament game in 1992.
Maryland and Michigan State were among the projected top 16 earlier but fell out after losing in their respective tournaments. For fans, the First Four games are set for March 18-19, with the first and second rounds running from March 20-23.
This year’s regionals take place in Fort Worth, Texas, and Sacramento, California. The tournament is structured into two regions, with champions crowned at each site. Sweet 16 games are scheduled for March 27-28, followed by the Elite Eight on March 29-30. The women’s Final Four will be held in Phoenix, with the semifinals on April 3 and the championship game on April 5.
