Exclusive: Aubrey Plaza, Adam Driver, Vanessa Kirby, and Matthew Broderick Lead Kenneth Lonergan’s Gripping New Drama ‘Tomorrow Is a Drag’

One of the most talked-about projects at this year’s Cannes market is “Tomorrow Is a Drag.” This film marks the return of Oscar-winning director Kenneth Lonergan, featuring a stellar cast. Aubrey Plaza, known for “The White Lotus” and “Ingrid Goes West,” leads the ensemble, joined by Adam Driver, Vanessa Kirby, and Matthew Broderick.

This film is significant as it is Lonergan’s first directorial role since “Manchester by the Sea,” which won Casey Affleck an Oscar and earned Lonergan another for Best Original Screenplay.

Representing both international and North American sales, MK2 Films and WME are supporting the film, adding it to an impressive lineup at Cannes. MK2 is showcasing 11 features, five of which are in competition.

While plot details remain a secret, the title suggests Lonergan’s signature style, mixing humor with deep character exploration—a theme seen in his past works like “Margaret” and “You Can Count on Me.” The film’s producer, Sara Murphy, previously worked on successful projects and will bring her experience to this production, which begins shooting this fall in New York.

Adam Driver is also in Cannes for another competition entry, “Piper Tiger,” having previously collaborated with Lonergan in the play “Hold On to Me Darling.” Notably, this project unites him with Matthew Broderick, who has a long-standing relationship with Lonergan from several previous films and plays.

This film’s buzz showcases how foundational relationships and experiences in the film industry contribute to new projects, harkening back to the intimate connections that have long defined successful storytelling.
