“Exclusive: ‘Brazil Avenue’ Star Murilo Benício and ‘Turma da Mônica’s’ Kevin Vechiatto Join the Cast of Hilarious New Comedy ‘Nico’ from LB Entertainment”

Murilo Benício, known for hit Globo telenovelas like “The Clone” and “Brazil Avenue,” teams up with Kevin Vechiatto, a familiar face from Brazil’s kids’ favorite “Turma da Mônica,” in the new comedy “Nico.” This film comes from LB Entertainment, the same company behind the popular series “Sintonia.”

Produced by LB Entertainment and +Galeria, “Nico” promises a fresh take on comedy. Unlike many Brazilian films that focus solely on stand-up routines, this story weaves humor with emotional depth, making it relatable to a wide audience.

In “Nico,” Benício plays Márcio, a father who hasn’t spoken to his son, Nico, played by Vechiatto, for years. Their journey kicks off when they are unexpectedly thrown together on a cramped 30-hour road trip.

Nico is a 17-year-old who spends most of his time online and struggles to connect with others in real life. On the other hand, Márcio is a comedian whose glory days are behind him. Despite once making millions laugh, he can’t seem to connect with his own son.

The road trip forces them to confront their disconnected relationship. As they travel, they learn to adapt, not just to each other, but also to the world beyond their car.

Benício describes Márcio as a “50-year-old cancelled father” facing a mid-life crisis. Vechiatto adds that Nico is a sensitive character who often feels overwhelmed by life’s complexities, practically living in his room.

Producer Felipe Braga describes “Nico” as a film filled with heart. The story illustrates the humor and challenges two very different people face on their journey together, highlighting their emotional growth along the way. Braga emphasizes that the film balances sensitivity with comedy, especially through the banter between father and son.

LB Entertainment is known for collaborating with a new wave of talented writers, including Filipe Serra, who co-wrote the film. Serra’s work on the award-winning series “Lov3” helped shape the edgy and engaging narrative style that defines “Nico.”

The film also tackles relevant social issues in a humorous way, reflecting the challenges of today’s polarized society.

Thanks to a São Paulo Paulo Gustavo grant, the movie has solid financial backing, allowing the creators to elevate their vision without compromising their artistic integrity. Producer Rita Moraes shares that they aimed to transform a simple yet powerful script into a commercial success by bringing on the right talent.

With Benício in the lead, “Nico” intends to attract a broad audience by combining comedy with poignant storytelling. The direction of Mariana Youssef, known for her work on “Lov3” and “Teenage Kiss: The Future is Dead,” also adds a fresh perspective. Moraes notes the film’s focus on masculinity and the dynamics between the two male leads, making Youssef’s direction crucial for its success.
