Acclaimed director Jaume Collet-Serra has just signed a multiyear deal with Netflix to produce and direct films. His first project under this new contract is a psychological thriller titled “An Innocent Girl.” The story follows a young woman lured by a powerful D.C. couple into a risky world of sex, power, and murder. Collet-Serra will direct and produce alongside well-known names Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
In his words, working on “Carry-On” was a dream come true: “From production to release, my experience making ‘Carry-On’ with the Netflix team was everything a filmmaker could hope for. I’m excited to keep pushing boundaries together, starting with ‘An Innocent Girl.’”
Doug Belgrad, Netflix’s film vice president, praised Collet-Serra as one of today’s top directors. “He knows how to deliver big, high-stakes stories that audiences love,” Belgrad noted. His previous work includes hits like “Jungle Cruise,” “Orphan,” and “Non-Stop,” showcasing his talent across different genres.
Experts suggest this trend of directors forming long-term relationships with streaming platforms like Netflix could reshape filmmaking. With traditional studios facing challenges, streaming services may provide the creative freedom many directors crave.
