Lionsgate has just unveiled the trailer for “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026. This latest chapter in the popular franchise draws inspiration from the 2025 book of the same name.
The story takes us back 24 years before the original movie, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada. This time around, Haymitch is among the tributes for the 50th Hunger Games, which is also the second Quarter Quell. In this unique event, each district in Panem must double their tribute count, leading to a fierce battle among 48 kids who must compete to survive.
In addition to Zada, the film features Elle Fanning as a younger Effie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, and Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, to name a few. These characters are familiar to fans, with their roles previously played by Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks, among others.
“Sunrise on the Reaping” is helmed by director Francis Lawrence and penned by Billy Ray. Producers Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson return to ensure the film stays true to the franchise’s spirit.
