Nintendo has just shared the first photos from the live-action movie of The Legend of Zelda. These images give us a peek at Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, officially marking the start of production.
Filming recently kicked off in New Zealand, and fans had already spotted some unofficial videos online, showcasing a forest scene with the actors.
Bragason’s Zelda wears blue robes reminiscent of her look in Breath of the Wild, while Ainsworth’s Link resembles the character from Twilight Princess, sporting a dark green tunic.
In addition to the main characters, there’s speculation that Dichen Lachman from Succession will play Impa, Zelda’s loyal aide, though this is yet to be confirmed.
This live-action adaptation, announced in November 2023, is produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, with Wes Ball directing a screenplay by Derek Connolly. It’s set to hit theaters on May 7, 2027, following the success of Nintendo’s recent Super Mario Movie.
In a recent update, Nintendo is planning a consistent release of video game films, with the next animated sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, arriving on April 3, 2026. Brie Larson is set to lend her voice to Princess Rosalina, and Bennie Safdie will voice Bowser Jr.
The anticipation for these films reflects a growing trend in the entertainment industry as adaptations of beloved video games gain popularity. As the demand for immersive storytelling increases, franchises like Zelda stand poised to attract both long-time fans and new viewers alike.
