“Exclusive Insight: Former Guitar Hero Developers Launch Exciting New Rock Band-Inspired Game!”

Several seasoned developers behind the classic Guitar Hero series have unveiled their new project: Stage Tour. This rhythm game, reminiscent of old favorites, is set for release later this year.

Stage Tour was announced during the IGN Fan Fest 2026. It’s the first title from RedOctane, a studio formed by former Harmonix developers who created the original Guitar Hero for the PS2. In 2025, they launched a new plastic guitar controller compatible with games like Fortnite Festival and Clone Hero. Recently, they’ve hinted at a new drum kit as well, emphasizing that this is just the beginning.

Simon Ebejer, RedOctane’s head, described Stage Tour as “a love letter to rhythm gaming.” The goal is to blend nostalgia with innovation. The game will leverage modern technology to bring players closer to the music they cherish, combining challenging gameplay with a casual vibe.

Stage Tour will support multiple input options, including PC keyboards. Players can expect songs with dynamic notes that adapt to their chosen difficulty and controller. They also have a partnership with Gibson for in-game branded guitars, bringing back elements familiar to Guitar Hero fans.

The studio plans to start alpha testing for Stage Tour this summer, ahead of its fall launch on PC and various consoles.

Did you know that during the peak of rhythm games in the mid-2000s, titles like Guitar Hero and Rock Band sold millions? Research shows that these games helped boost interest in music learning, inspiring many to pick up real instruments. As the music gaming genre evolves, it’s exciting to see what Stage Tour will bring to both new and seasoned players.
