Apple is testing its new C2 modem for upcoming iPhone models, according to a reliable leaker.
The leaker shared that this modem has a C4020 identifier. This suggests it’s a real project for Apple, though no extra details were given.
Apple has a history of developing new iPhone chips years before release. So, it’s no surprise they are working on the C2 modem. This new modem aims to deliver quicker and more reliable 5G connections, and it may also be more power-efficient.
Currently, the C1 modem in the iPhone 16e is the most energy-saving modem Apple has made. It helps give that model the longest battery life for a 6.1-inch iPhone, outperforming even the pricier iPhone 16.
We haven’t seen speed tests for the C1 modem yet, but early indications suggest it might be slower than Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X75 modem used in other phones.
Apple’s chip lead, Johny Srouji, mentioned that the C1 modem is just the beginning. This hints that the C2 modem will be the next big improvement.
