Guilty Gear Strive continues to capture players’ attention, even over four years after its launch. The recent announcement of Lucy from Cyberpunk as a DLC character on August 21st has fans buzzing. But there’s more in store. At the EVO 2025 finals, a teaser for Guilty Gear Strive 2.00 hinted at exciting new additions, including silhouettes of two beloved characters, Robo-Ky and Jam Kuradoberi.

I had the chance to chat with Ken Miyauchi, the producer of Guilty Gear Strive, about what’s coming next.

Miyauchi confirmed that the teaser for version 2.00 is just the beginning. “We want to add more exciting content,” he said, promising further details soon.

The addition of Jam and Robo-Ky shows that the team is dedicated to expanding the game’s character roster. Players can look forward to unique play styles and mechanics that stay true to each character’s identity.

Speaking of unique mechanics, Lucy is particularly intriguing. Her combat style includes a “Quickhack” move, inspired by Cyberpunk 2077. This will add a new twist to gameplay, making her stand out among the current characters.

Another big feature coming to Strive is a new ranked mode. This mode will allow players to earn battle points and climb the ranks competitively. According to Miyauchi, this aligns with systems seen in other fighting games, making it familiar yet fresh. Players can look forward to a Wi-Fi indicator and options for bad connections, which should improve the overall online experience.

On the balance front, adjustments to game mechanics like RISC and Guard Crush are on the way. Miyauchi mentioned that community feedback is playing a key role in these tweaks. He noted, “We think there needs to be some tone downs on several game mechanics,” aiming to ensure fairness while preserving character uniqueness.

As part of the ongoing changes, there’s curiosity surrounding an upcoming project from Arc System Works, Marvel Tokon. Miyauchi couldn’t share specifics, but he confirmed some discussion between teams, hinting at interesting developments in the pipeline.

When asked about expanding the Guilty Gear franchise beyond fighting games, Miyauchi expressed openness to exploring new genres. “I’m interested in expanding Guilty Gear as an IP to reach a wider audience,” he said. While no concrete plans were revealed, it’s clear that the brand has potential beyond its roots.

With all these exciting updates, Guilty Gear Strive looks set to evolve significantly in the near future, keeping both long-time fans and newcomers engaged.
