The first photos of the Asus ROG Ally 2 have recently appeared online, revealing two distinct versions of this gaming handheld. One of these models sports a dedicated Xbox button, suggesting a close collaboration between Asus and Microsoft.

Earlier reports indicated that Microsoft was teaming up with Asus for what was dubbed “Project Kennan,” and this seems to be the outcome. The Xbox-branded model is black, distinguishing it from the white version, and prominently features an Xbox logo on a button in the top-left corner. In contrast, the regular ROG Ally lacks this button, which might be altered or removed in the final production model.

According to a report by 91mobiles, both versions received certification in Indonesia. Additional insights from VideoCardz linked these listings to an FCC filing that includes images of the devices and some specifications. Notably, the ROG Ally 2 features a 7-inch, 120Hz LCD display, similar to its predecessor. The Xbox version is powered by an 8-core, 36W AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme CPU, while the standard version uses a 4-core, 20W chip.

The design of the ROG Ally 2 has also undergone some changes. The new model has molded controller grips for better ergonomics, making it feel bulkier than the original ROG Ally. This alteration aims to enhance user comfort during long gaming sessions.

With certification now in progress, a release may be imminent. Asus typically unveils new hardware at Computex, which kicks off on May 20th, just one day after Microsoft’s Build conference begins on May 19th.

Adding to the excitement, recent data from the gaming industry shows that portable gaming devices are gaining popularity. A survey by Statista revealed that 43% of gamers are interested in handheld systems, highlighting a growing trend. Given the competitive landscape, the ROG Ally 2 may capture the interest of many gamers eager for more versatile gaming options.
