Exclusive: Vincent D’Onofrio Hints at ‘Bigger and Crazier’ Mayor Fisk Storyline in Daredevil: Born Again!

There’s a tense history between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. The new trailer for Daredevil: Born Again sets the stage with a scene in a diner. Matt, played by Charlie Cox, and Fisk, portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio, share a seemingly friendly conversation. But beneath the surface, a violent past looms.

This moment is significant because it’s uncommon. Cox told Entertainment Weekly that he and D’Onofrio intentionally limit their shared scenes to create a greater impact when they do interact.

“We need their meetings to feel like a clash of two titans,” Cox explains. “If you show them together too often, the tension fades.” He also mentioned an episode where a conversation was written, but he felt it would lessen the stakes. The writers found a clever way to keep their encounters explosive.

Although fans are eager to see the rivalry between Daredevil and Kingpin unfold, the trailer hints at the return of other beloved characters. Jon Bernthal is back as the Punisher, signaling that big challenges lay ahead for Matt. Plus, Matt’s old friends, Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, are also featured.

Cox sees Foggy and Karen as the heart of Daredevil. “Without them, Matt’s journey lacks emotional depth. Their presence helps me explore the dark side of his character.”

The trailer also teases Fisk’s new ambition to run for mayor of New York City. Drawing inspiration from the “Mayor Fisk” storyline in the comics, D’Onofrio suggests viewers should brace for surprises. “Whatever we show is just the start of something bigger,” he hints about Fisk’s quest for power.

Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere March 4 on Disney+.
