Experience Authentic Local Flavors with Vande Bharat Express: New Regional Cuisine Offerings on Select Routes!

Indian Railways is transforming train travel with a delicious twist. The Vande Bharat Express now offers regional cuisine, allowing passengers to savor authentic local specialties while they travel. This initiative, launched by the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), enhances the journey by celebrating the rich flavors of India’s diverse culinary landscape.

Available on select routes, the new menus feature beloved dishes from various states. For example, passengers on the Nagpur-Secunderabad route can enjoy Kanda Poha from Maharashtra and Andhra Kodi Kura from Andhra Pradesh. This brings a taste of local culture right to the dining table on the train.

On the Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar route, you can bite into Methi Thepla, a traditional Gujarati bread, while the Howrah-Puri Express serves vegetarian delights like Odisha’s Aloo Phulkopi. In Kerala, passengers can indulge in several traditional options, including Kadala Curry and the delightful dessert Palada Payasam, showcasing the region’s culinary depth.

Not to be missed are Bihar’s Champaran dishes, like Champaran Chicken and Paneer on the Patna-Ranchi route. Meanwhile, those traveling to Jammu and Kashmir can enjoy local specialties such as Ambal Kaddu and Kesar Phirni, capturing the essence of North Indian flavors.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of making train travel culturally immersive. This initiative aims to satisfy the growing traveler interest in authentic regional experiences. The introduction of these menus not only meets the demand for high-quality food but also supports culinary tourism in India, allowing travelers to explore diverse traditions right from their seats.

Recent industry research shows that travel experiences involving local cuisine can increase customer satisfaction by as much as 30%. As food becomes integral to the journey, qualitative aspects like taste, freshness, and cultural relevance are prioritized. Indian Railways plans to expand these offerings as more routes come online.

Sustainability is also a key focus. The meals are prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and eco-friendly practices are in place, aligning with Indian Railways’ commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

The regional menus on the Vande Bharat Express promise to enrich the travel experience by connecting passengers with India’s culinary wonders. This unique approach to dining sets a new standard in train travel, making each journey not just a trip but a flavorful adventure.
