Super Bowl LIX is just around the corner, and Sony is gearing up to capture all the excitement with its top-notch cameras and tech.
As the official technology partner of the NFL, Sony will install over 240 cameras in and around the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. This setup promises fans a viewing experience like no other.
Sony’s gear will be essential for every aspect of the broadcast, from the action on the field to post-game celebrations and everything in between. FOX Sports plans to use more than 100 Sony cameras for their coverage, while photographers from The Associated Press (AP) and NFL Focus will utilize Sony’s Alpha™ interchangeable-lens cameras to freeze key moments of the game.
Sony’s Role in the Super Bowl Broadcast
For over ten years, Sony’s broadcast cameras have been vital for Super Bowl coverage. This year, FOX Sports and Game Creek Video will use them for all coverage stages—before, during, and after the game. Here’s what to look for:
- Cameras will be set up in both end zones and along the sidelines, including SkyCam for aerial views.
- 14 cameras will focus on streaming content.
- Sony BVM monitors will ensure perfect color grading.
- HawkREPLAY systems will handle instant replays.
- Hawk-Eye tech will support in-game officiating and production.
Michael Davies from FOX Sports mentioned the significance of Sony’s contribution:
The Super Bowl isn’t just another game. It’s a massive production. Our goal is to capture the game’s energy and share it with billions. Sony helps us achieve that.
Photography: Capturing Every Defining Moment
Sony also provides imaging equipment for The Associated Press, which will have 14 photographers and 9 editors in attendance. The NFL Focus photography team will also use Sony Alpha™ cameras and lenses.
Both AP and NFL Focus will send photos and videos directly to editors in real-time, making full use of Sony’s PDT-FP1 transmitter. Sony’s Pro Support team will also be there to lend gear and provide technical help.
Halftime Show: A Cinematic Production
For the fifth year running, Funicular Goats will produce the Super Bowl Halftime Show. They’ve chosen the Sony VENICE 2 as their main camera system for the fourth time. With only five minutes to prepare, Sony’s full-frame sensors and broadcast features are crucial for this fast-paced show.
James Coker from Funicular Goats noted:
The Super Bowl Halftime Show is a unique challenge. The Sony cameras perfectly combine the right features for our needs.
