The Howrah-Guwahati Vande Bharat Sleeper train is about to start its first journey. This highly anticipated service will connect Howrah and Guwahati, making travel easier and promoting tourism in the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially launch the train later this month.
The new sleeper train will cut travel time between the two cities by nearly three hours. Currently, the quickest service, the Saraighat Express, takes over 16 hours to cover the 966 km. With the Vande Bharat, the journey time should be reduced to around 14 hours.
Built by BEML using modern technology, the train can reach speeds of up to 180 km/h and will operate six days a week. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced plans to spread Vande Bharat Sleeper trains across all states for longer overnight journeys up to 1,500 km.
Safety and comfort were top priorities in the design. The train features CCTV cameras, an emergency talk-back system, and new disinfecting technology to ensure cleanliness.
