Experience Flavor and Culture at the Novi Taco Fest: A Must-Visit Community Celebration!

Hundreds flocked to the Novi Taco Fest at Twelve Mile Crossing, celebrating delicious food and vibrant culture. This three-day event offers a variety of tacos, with about 40 food trucks showcasing their unique takes—from barbecue to dessert tacos.

One highlight was Peace Love and Tacos, a father-son duo from Brighton. Owner James Yancey, originally from Arizona, shared his love for fry bread tacos. “We just want to serve the tacos we grew up with,” he explained. His business stands out in Michigan, where fry bread tacos are rare, adding a special touch to the festival.

Entertainment is also a big part of the fest, featuring energetic performances like lucha libre wrestling and lively dances by Ballet Folklorico Mexico Lindo. Director Elsa Carrera said, “We love sharing our culture with the community. Expect colorful dresses and lively dances!”

Visitors can join in fun contests, including taco-eating challenges and the ever-popular cutest dog contest. Jameelah Beckwith and her boyfriend, Jeremiah Grant, brought their 3-month-old Aussiedoodle, Ruby, who stole the show and won the title of “cutest dog.” “It was a nice surprise,” Beckwith said, clearly enjoying the festive atmosphere.

Festival-goers shared their favorite foods too. Shania Myers, who came with friends, particularly loved the Mexican street corn from the Drunken Rooster. “Every food truck I tried was really good! But the dogs? That’s my favorite part!” she exclaimed, pointing out a beloved highlight of the festival.

This year’s festival saw a notable increase in food options. Beckwith noticed more diverse food trucks than before. “I’m here for the food!” she said, echoing the sentiments of many attendees.

Many people appreciate the community aspect of the event. Local resident Brandon Xu mentioned, “It’s great to see a mix of people coming together.” First-time visitor Jon-Kayla Pointer enjoyed the lively atmosphere, noting the variety of food, music, and excitement.

Tickets for the festival are $10 at the door, or $25 for a family of four online. This celebration not only highlights food but also builds community bonds, making it a cherished annual event.
