Experience Liberty University’s Transformative College for a Weekend: Training Tomorrow’s Champions for Christ!

As a millennial mom, I recently took my high school junior daughter to Liberty University for her first college visit. We joined their “College For A Weekend” event, and from the moment we stepped onto campus, we felt the university’s mission to train champions for Christ. Liberty emphasizes faith in every aspect, from their athletic programs to the degrees that prepare students for meaningful lives. It’s clear they attract students eager to live their faith boldly.

My husband and I attended a small Christian liberal arts college in Southern California in the early 2000s. Over the years, we’ve noticed a troubling trend: many Christian colleges are retreating from their core beliefs. Institutions that once confidently upheld biblical values now hesitate to advocate for issues like the sanctity of life and the definition of marriage. The louder the calls for compliance to progressive ideals, the quicker these colleges seem to conform.

Finding a college that stands firm on biblical truth is increasingly rare. As intentional Christian parents, we’ve devoted years to instilling values and prayerful guidance in our children. We want them to step into adulthood grounded in faith. That’s why choosing a college that aligns with those beliefs is essential.

Liberty University’s steadfast commitment to Christ and its refusal to bend to modern ideologies were major reasons we wanted to learn more about the school. I anticipated a massive student body would be overwhelming, and it was. But what struck me even more was the incredible sense of community and spiritual connection among the students.

We attended classes, toured dorms, sampled campus food, and explored Liberty Mountain, which features a variety of outdoor activities. Opportunities for personal growth, community building, and experiencing God’s creation seemed endless.

A memorable moment occurred in the cafeteria. Among the hustle and bustle, I noticed a group of male students pause to pray for one another with sincerity and compassion—no embarrassment, just genuine faith in action.

During chapel, students worshiped openly, raising their hands with humility and enjoying God’s presence, regardless of the crowd of 4,000 visitors. The Robertson family, known from Duck Dynasty, spoke during this time, sharing insights from their long-standing connection to Liberty and what it means to live a Christ-centered life after college.

There’s a clear movement of God at Liberty University. Witnessing His work in the lives of so many young believers was inspiring. Regardless of whether my daughter chooses Liberty, it was uplifting to see how the university encourages the next generation to deepen their relationship with God and be a light in today’s culture.

As you explore educational options, remember that a college’s environment can significantly impact a student’s faith journey. Studies show that colleges that support spiritual growth can lead to stronger faith development, helping students navigate adult life with confidence. Engaging with a community that aligns with your values can make all the difference.
