Experience Rapid Travel: Delhi to Amritsar in Under 2 Hours with Cutting-Edge Train Speeds!

New Delhi: The Indian Railways is enhancing travel between major cities in Northern India with the new Delhi-Amritsar High Speed Rail (DAMHSR) project. This 465-kilometer route will connect Delhi, Chandigarh, and Amritsar with 13 stations along the way.

Launched in 2019, the DAMHSR is one of six high-speed rail corridors aimed at improving transport links. The project aims to cut travel time between Delhi and Amritsar to just under two hours. Trains will reach speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour, with an operating speed around 320 kilometers per hour, averaging about 250 kilometers per hour during trips.

Route and Stations

The train will feature a mix of elevated, underground, and ground-level sections. It will mostly follow a new alignment through central Haryana, running parallel to the existing Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway.

Fare Structure

Expected fares will be around 1.5 times the current first-class AC fare on Indian Railways, with final prices announced closer to the launch date. This approach aims to prepare potential travelers for when services begin.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) oversees the project, collaborating with companies like Magnitude Consortium, PK Engineers, and APECO Infrastructure India Pvt. Ltd. These partners ensure compliance with safety standards and complete data collection and environmental assessments.

A noteworthy feature is the Urgent Earthquake Detection and Alarm System (UrEDAS), which automatically engages the brakes in case of seismic activity, enhancing passenger safety.

As India embraces high-speed rail, this initiative echoes global trends. High-speed rail projects have transformed travel in countries like Japan and France. In fact, Japan’s Shinkansen trains have set standards for safety and efficiency, showcasing the potential benefits of such infrastructure in India.
