Experience Sensory-Friendly Sundays at the Museum of Discovery and Science: A Perfect Day for All Families!

MODS Sensory-Friendly Sundays aim to create a welcoming space for individuals on the Autism Spectrum. The museum opens an hour early for special activities and exploration, followed by an IMAX film at 12:30 p.m.

During this time, the theater adapts to be more sensory-friendly. The lights are brighter, and the sound is softer. All films are shown in 2D, and there will be no trailers before the main feature. Audience members can feel free to express themselves—singing, dancing, or simply moving around is perfectly acceptable. Families are encouraged to bring their own snacks, blankets, and other small comforts.

Inside the museum, children can take part in various sensory-based activities. These activities help enhance social skills and improve the way they process different sensory experiences. It’s a fantastic way for children to engage and interact in a supportive environment.

The museum itself is a treasure, boasting 150,000 square feet of engaging science exhibits. Visitors can explore an outdoor science park, see live animals, watch exciting science shows, and much more. One of the highlights is the Great Gravity Clock—a stunning 52-foot-tall kinetic sculpture that has been a centerpiece since 1993. It’s one of only three in the world!
