Experience the Joy of Food, Fun, and Family at the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival!

WHEELING — The excitement was palpable as Beau Catalano, honored as the 2025 Italian American of the Year, cut the ribbon to kick off the 42nd Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival at Heritage Port.

This weekend marks a three-day celebration of Italian culture, featuring delightful food, music, dancing, and community spirit.

Every year, Festival President Michele Fabbro reflects on 11 months of hard work that lead up to this event. “I always say it’s the best festival yet, and I feel the same this year,” she shared, highlighting the essence of family, fun, and food.

Food booths filled Water Street, offering delicious Italian classics like homemade meatballs, desserts, and sausage sandwiches from the Sons of Italy. Alongside these were diverse street foods representing various cultures.

Entertainment is plentiful, with performances happening on two stages. The Little Italy Stage near WesBanco Arena features local talents like Robert “Moose” Dodrill and traditional Italian dance groups. Mikey Dee will bring his accordion skills to life on Saturday, a performance many attendees are eagerly anticipating.

The main stage will host bands like Amici and the McCartney Project, a tribute to Paul McCartney and the Beatles, ensuring a mix of classic and contemporary sounds throughout the festival.

Fabbro and festival chair Tony Filberto emphasize the importance of showcasing Italian traditions. Events like bocce tournaments, traditional dances, and even a Sunday Mass led by the Most Rev. Mark Brennan enrich this cultural experience. After the Mass, attendees can dive into a classic spaghetti dinner and watch cooking demonstrations for gnocchi and limoncello.

Filberto noted, “While street fairs are common, we pride ourselves on honoring our Italian heritage.” The festival also serves as a resource for local residents affected by the June 14 flash floods in Ohio County, with FEMA available on-site to assist with aid applications after a federal disaster declaration.

The festival is more than just an event; it fosters a sense of community. It reflects deep-rooted traditions while also adapting to the needs of the moment. Attendees are ready to indulge in good food, enjoy lively entertainment, and connect with their cultural heritage. It’s a celebration that truly encapsulates the spirit of togetherness.
