Experience the Magic: Coldstream’s Exciting Summer Night Market is Here!

A new night market is coming to Coldstream, thanks to a company called Soleil J Events. They recently got the green light from the Coldstream council to set up this exciting event in the Coldstream Station parking lot. This market will run every Thursday evening from June to September, continuing through the summer of 2025.

The market aims to be a lively spot for local artisans, food vendors, and small businesses. They plan to bring together community members and visitors alike to experience a vibrant market atmosphere. It’s a great chance for locals to showcase their products and connect with others.

Coldstream Station, which opened in March 2023, has not seen much use since its launch. The council envisioned it as a space for food trucks and community events. The parking lot is designed to keep traffic moving while making room for the market.

Soleil J Events also wants to include entertainment in the form of amplified sound during market hours, which will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. However, the district has specific rules about noise in parks. Typically, amplified sound isn’t allowed if it disturbs others, so this request needs council approval.

In line with regulations, the council approved the sound request under certain conditions. The market must have proper licensing, food trucks need the district’s approval, and vendors are responsible for maintaining a clean area. Importantly, access points to Coldstream Station must remain clear for traffic.

The decision was well thought out, with input from several district departments. Notably, nearby business Sun Country Cycle expressed concerns about parking, but council aims to work closely with the event organizers to minimize disruption. Other vendors, like Mi Taqueria, have shown support for the market.

Night markets are becoming popular across different regions. According to a recent survey by the National Association of Market Vendors, about 70% of respondents said they enjoyed shopping at local night markets for their unique offerings and vibrant atmosphere. This trend highlights the growing importance of community events in fostering local economies and bringing people together.

In summary, the night market at Coldstream Station has potential to rejuvenate the area and create connections among locals and visitors. As we look forward to this new summer tradition, it’s a reminder of how local initiatives can brighten our community.
