Lady Gaga’s new album, Mayhem, is finally here! This is her seventh studio album, following 2020’s Chromatica and the 2023 companion piece for Joker 2, titled Harlequin.
The album, which Gaga co-produced with her fiancé Michael Polansky and Andrew Watt, features tracks that started to drop last fall. The first single, “Die With A Smile,” is a collaboration with Bruno Mars. Other lead singles include “Disease” and “Abracadabra,” both showcasing Gaga’s signature electro-pop sound. The album also has contributions from Gesaffelstein, a French DJ known for his work with the Weeknd.
Gaga recorded Mayhem at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-la Studios. She explained, “The album started as me conquering a fear: to return to the pop music my earliest fans loved.” This project has helped her reconnect with her roots while sharing her joy with fans.
Fans have noted that the album feels reminiscent of her earlier works, like The Fame Monster and Born This Way. Gaga mentioned in an interview, “I wanted to traverse old ground while breaking new ground. There are moments where people might say, ‘Oh, that reminds me of this,’ because I do have a style, but I made an effort musically to push myself to a new place.”
This weekend, Gaga will host and perform on Saturday Night Live. While she hasn’t revealed any tour plans just yet, she has shows lined up in Mexico and Brazil and will headline at Coachella in April.
