Experience the Magic of Lianzhou: Join the Grand Opening of the 2024 Lianzhou Foto Festival!

On December 31, 2024, Lianzhou, China, celebrated the opening of the Lianzhou Foto, a major photography event. This exhibition, held at Liu Yuxi Cultural Square, brought together photography lovers and experts from around the globe to appreciate and share the beauty of visual art.

The event was launched with speeches from key officials, including Su Jindan, deputy mayor of Qingyuan, and Pan Zhenghuan, secretary of the Lianzhou Municipal Party Committee. They highlighted Lianzhou’s rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes, describing how the Lianzhou Foto has become a vital platform for cultural exchange over its 16 years of existence. They encouraged photographers to explore and capture the essence of Lianzhou through their lenses.

Su Jindan pointed out that Qingyuan is a historic center of Lingnan civilization and emphasized Lianzhou’s role as a key transportation hub. He expressed hope that this exhibition would attract attention, investment, and tourism, showcasing the unique culture and natural beauty of the region.

Chen Liqun, a representative from China Photo Press, shared insights on the curatorial approach for this year’s event. He noted the inclusion of a wide range of photographic styles, from traditional documentary photography to contemporary works utilizing AI, aimed at appealing to diverse audiences. The emphasis on high-quality artistic presentation marks this exhibition as a significant contribution to the photography world.

Huang Mei echoed this sentiment, calling Lianzhou the “Chinese Photography City.” She described the Lianzhou Foto as one of the most distinguished photography festivals in China, dedicated to professional standards and artistic expression, while promoting cultural exchange on a global scale.

The theme for the 2024 exhibition is “Looking Back and Looking Ahead,” and it will run until February 4, 2025. Over 3,000 pieces from 291 photographers across 35 countries are showcased. The exhibition features both professional and open sections, with various venues around Lianzhou, including museums and cultural centers, helping to create an immersive experience for visitors.

Lianzhou Foto also aims to connect its picturesque landscapes and rich history through planned photography tour routes, enhancing the tourism experience and promoting local culture. In a notable change, this exhibition will shift to a biennial schedule, enhancing quality and allowing for greater artistic development. The next event is set for 2026.

The Lianzhou Foto not only serves to display photographs but also tells a broader story about the region and its connection to the world. Through this exhibition and its initiatives, Lianzhou hopes to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture globally.
