Experience the Thrill: LA County Fair Brings 16 Days of Rides, Delicious Food, Art, and Animals to Fairplex in Pomona!

The 96th Los Angeles County Fair kicks off its 16-day run in Pomona with the theme “Art Unleashed,” celebrating creativity in various forms. This year, the fair has teamed up with local art organizations to provide exciting programming for visitors.

Every weekend, The Getty will host workshops, including a print-making session led by Boyle Heights artist Aceves of Kalli Arte Collective and a large mural by muralist Fabian Debora, illustrating “Love for Los Angeles.” The Music Center also contributes, featuring Flamenco dancers on the Plaza Stage.

For theater lovers, the Center Theatre Group is introducing a new play starring the fair’s mascot, Thummer, which will debut on weekends. Meanwhile, Bob Baker Marionettes will enchant audiences every Sunday. On May 17, LA Opera invites attendees to learn how to sing like an opera star.

A special exhibit from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art will showcase self-portraits by renowned artists like Andy Warhol and Diane Arbus. The Flower and Garden Pavilion will also feature “BLOOM 2 ART,” highlighting the connection between flowers, art, and communal spirit through imaginative displays.

Walter Marquez, the president of Fairplex, expressed excitement about this year’s theme, stating, “Art reflects our creative spirit, with countless forms showcased at the fair— from crafts to culinary treats and carnival fun.”

Speaking of the carnival, visitors can look forward to new rides this year, including roller coasters and a Ferris wheel. The fair also boasts a revamped roller skating rink and a new petting zoo featuring mini-horses, goats, and pigs.

Foodies will discover novel treats like a meatball mozzarella corndog and a chocolate-covered strawberry cup, making sure to satisfy all cravings.

The concert series starts with the funk-rock band War, followed by performances from artists such as Shaggy, Common Kings, and Los Angeles Azules. Tickets are available online, with early purchases starting at $9.50.

The fair runs from 5-11 p.m. on opening day, with hours extending to 11 p.m. on weekends. Ticket prices vary throughout the month, so planning ahead could save some money. Children and seniors enjoy reduced fares, and parking options are available both online and at the gate.

This annual event has deep roots, evolving from a commercial show that began in 1921. The first official Los Angeles County Fair was held in October 1922, showcasing local agriculture and industry. Over the decades, it has transformed into a celebration of art, community, and entertainment.
