Four astronauts recently launched on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-11 mission. They took off at 11:43 a.m. EDT from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Their goal? A science mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

The mission is led by NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, along with Kimiya Yui from JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and Oleg Platonov from Roscosmos. They expect to dock with the ISS around 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Sean Duffy, acting NASA Administrator, highlighted the significance of this mission. He noted that it’s a step toward a permanent presence on the Moon, aiming for 2026 with NASA’s Artemis program. During the flight, SpaceX will track the Dragon spacecraft from its control center in Hawthorne, California, while NASA will ensure operations at the station from its Houston base.

Once they arrive, the astronauts will change out of their suits and prepare to offload cargo. They’ll officially enter the ISS around 4:45 a.m. and participate in a welcome ceremony shortly after.
