AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn’s head coach, Bruce Pearl, summed up the challenge of facing No. 6 Tennessee in just nine words: “We’re going to have to be at our best.” This game is a big deal, especially since Auburn sits at No. 1 and Tennessee is right behind them at No. 6.
Saturday’s matchup has garnered a lot of anticipation. ESPN College GameDay will be live from Neville Arena, marking its fifth consecutive season at Auburn. Pearl praised the Auburn family for creating such an incredible home-court experience.
“This is the best home-court advantage in college basketball,” he said. “Our players deserve this spotlight. It’s great for our student body and the university.”
Broadcasters are echoing Pearl’s sentiments. ESPN analyst Jay Bilas described the environment as one of the best in the sport. He acknowledged Pearl’s transformation of the program, saying, “This is an extraordinarily good offensive team and an outstanding defensive team.”
Seth Greenberg, another ESPN analyst, highlighted how the arena is designed to engage students. “They’re not just spectators; they’re part of the game,” he said. “That’s what makes this place unique. It’s a fantastic atmosphere.”
Auburn is hopeful about the return of All-American Johni Broome, who has missed the last two games due to an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Pearl commended Dylan Cardwell for stepping up in Broome’s absence. “Dylan impacts winning significantly,” Pearl noted, calling him the best defender in the league.
Saturday’s game also marks the annual AUTLIVE event, which raises awareness for cancer detection and assists local cancer patients. Pearl emphasized the importance of early detection, stating, “Every dollar raised goes directly to those fighting cancer.”
With a record of 17-1 and 5-0 in conference play, Auburn aims for its 11th straight win against Tennessee, who holds a record of 17-2 and 4-2. The game is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN.
