Metroid Prime 4 has finally arrived, and after 18 long years, the anticipation is real! I recently had the chance to play it, but let’s backtrack a bit to set the scene.
Just before Metroid Prime 4, I got to try out two other highly anticipated Nintendo Switch games. The first was The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. I played it a month before its release in a NYC meeting room. At first, I was blown away by a new feature that let players collect and summon different items and enemies. It sounded exciting. But when I finally played the full game, I found that this feature didn’t offer as much creativity as I hoped. It felt less dynamic and more limited than it had promised.
Then came The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I previewed it in a high-rise in New York, and I was fascinated by its complex crafting system and a beautifully expanded world—areas both above and below ground. Surprisingly, there was an entire underground realm filled with secrets that I hadn’t seen in the preview. This made the full game even more engaging than expected.
Now, fast forward to Metroid Prime 4. I played it for about two hours in New York, and the excitement is real! The game comes out on December 4 for both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. However, I am left wondering how much I truly know about it.
I started with the introductory section where bounty hunter Samus Aran arrives on a planet under attack. It’s a high-energy tutorial that ends in a big bang. After that, I dived deeper into the game. In a lush area called Fury Green, I explored the vibrant jungle, scanning strange flora and fauna. The game feels more like exploration than just a typical shooter—a hallmark of the Metroid Prime series.
So, what sets Metroid Prime 4 apart? For one, the graphics are stunning. Nintendo’s Retro Studios has created a world that captivates the eye. Small details, like insects carrying leaves, bring the environment to life. Samus even gains new psychic powers, enabling her to solve puzzles and interact in fresh ways.
Moreover, a recent survey shows gamers are more excited for Metroid Prime 4 than they were for both Echoes of Wisdom and Tears of the Kingdom. This excitement reflects the nostalgia surrounding the Metroid franchise, which has a strong legacy dating back to its original release in 1986.
Overall, while I still have questions about Metroid Prime 4’s full scope, my initial impressions are overwhelmingly positive. Gamers everywhere are buzzing, and social media is filled with topics around gameplay, visuals, and storyline possibilities.
If you’re eager for a blend of nostalgia, innovative gameplay, and stunning visuals, keep an eye out for Metroid Prime 4 this December! It looks like it might just hit the mark.
