Markus McGowan and his family enjoyed their first visit to Mammoth Fest in Mt. Pleasant, and they can’t wait to return. “I love it,” he said, smiling. “The rides, games, food—everything is great!”
For nearly 40 years, this festival has been a hit, attracting crowds from all around. Organizer Lauren Titterington expected over 10,000 people this year, thanks to the lovely weather with temperatures in the mid-70s.
The festival is all about family fun without breaking the bank. Admission and parking are free, and unlimited ride tickets cost just $5. Abby Trich, a regular attendee, praised the rides, saying, “You can’t beat it.” Her toddler, Hayden, tried the rides for the first time, enjoying the motorcycles but needed some help on the swinging pirate ship.
Food is a big part of the festival. Vendors offered burgers, gyros, deep-fried cookies, and more. It’s a feast for every craving. Entertainment also appealed to all ages, with arts and crafts, bingo, and live bands. The Jaded Lips played garage rock while Saddle Up entertained with country tunes.
This year, there were over 60 craft vendors, a significant increase from about 40 last year. Chris Panichella, the county Park Coordinator, shared that vendors had been calling right up to the last minute, eager to participate.
Young Zy’eir Mack, just 3 years old, had a blast at the inflatable obstacle course. “I love it!” he shouted, peeking from the finish line. His enthusiasm perfectly captured the spirit of the event.
Next on the calendar is the Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival at Twin Lakes Park, running July 2-5. This festival promises 50 live performances and more than 220 vendors, showcasing a rich tapestry of arts, crafts, and ethnic foods.
