Celebrating Flavor and Community in Beaufort
Last Saturday, Beaufort came alive with the Vin de Mer event at the Wine & Food Festival. People flocked to downtown to sample an exciting mix of wines from across the globe.
Sommeliers and winemakers poured glasses of rich reds, crisp whites, and bubbly sparkling wines, while talented chefs showcased their culinary skills. Many local chefs, proud of their roots, featured ingredients from nearby farms.
One of these chefs, Rachel Hill, owns Seaside Sensations Catering in Morehead City. This was her first time at Vin de Mer. “We love sourcing local ingredients,” she says. “It’s all about what we can find fresh from our farms and seafood vendors.” Her enthusiasm echoed through the venue, as attendees eagerly tried her creative appetizers.
First-time visitor Wendy Toh shared her excitement. “It’s so much fun to explore together with friends. We’re having a great time!” she remarked, reflecting the lively atmosphere.
But this festival is more than just food and wine. Over the past five years, it has donated more than $250,000 to Carteret Community College’s culinary arts program. This funding has supported various projects and helped shape the curriculum. Festival organizers are dedicated to continuing this important work in the community.
In 2023, events like Vin de Mer are vital, especially as the culinary industry faces rising costs and challenges. Supporting local ventures not only boosts the economy but also strengthens community ties.
The event serves as a reminder of how food, wine, and local pride can bring people together for a greater cause.
