The University of West Florida’s Dr. Grier Williams School of Music is hosting a special concert featuring the UWF Symphonic Band and pianist Susan Chou. Join them on Monday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the UWF Pensacola campus.
Under the direction of Dr. Sean Kelley, the band will perform several captivating pieces. The lineup includes Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture,” Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” with guest pianist Susan Chou, Cindy McTee’s “Circuits,” and Richard Wagner’s “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral.”
Pianist Susan Chou has an inspiring background. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, she moved to the U.S. at 16 and earned a degree in computer engineering from Northwestern University. It was her piano teacher, Professor Alan Chow, who encouraged her to follow her true passion for music. She went on to study with renowned pianist Menahem Pressler at Indiana University, completing her master’s and doctorate in music.
Dr. Chou has performed globally, including collaborations with the North Central College Symphony Orchestra and the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra. She’s also played with notable musicians from various orchestras around the world. In addition to her performance career, she is an assistant professor at North Central College, where she inspires young pianists. Many of her students have gone on to prestigious music programs and competitions, showcasing her influence in the music community.
