- Bharat Mela 2026 turned Green Island into a vibrant celebration of Indian culture, attracting thousands and highlighting the friendship between India and Kuwait.
This year’s Bharat Mela lit up Green Island with colorful sights, lively music, and a spirit of community. Held on a Friday, it’s one of the largest cultural events in Kuwait, drawing diverse crowds from various backgrounds.
Organized by the Embassy of India and the Touristic Enterprise Company (TEC), the event welcomed a mix of Indian expatriates, diplomats, and locals, all united in celebrating heritage.
A Grand Opening Rooted in Tradition
The festival kicked off with a special ceremony led by H.E. Paramita Tripathi, the Ambassador-Designate of India. She lit a traditional lamp, a symbol of knowledge, as the beats of Kerala’s Panchavadyam filled the air.
In her speech, Ambassador Tripathi emphasized cultural exchange as a way to strengthen ties between India and Kuwait. She acknowledged the positive impact of the Indian community in Kuwait, noting that connections between people are essential to diplomacy.
Bharat Mela offered a delicious culinary journey through India. Visitors enjoyed dishes from different regions, featuring beloved street foods and sweet treats that added joy to the experience.
With over 30 bustling stalls, the venue became a marketplace filled with food and cultural wonders.
The heart of the festival was its cultural program, featuring 57 performances by over 700 artists. From classical dances to contemporary music and martial arts showcases, the diversity of India’s heritage was on full display.
One crowd favorite was the energetic Punjabi dhol drumming and the unique performances by the Dawoodi Bohra community’s “Burhani Band.” Flash mobs surprised audiences, encouraging spontaneous participation.
Artists of all ages participated, reflecting the community spirit in preserving and celebrating culture.
Visitors also explored interactive exhibits that showcased Indian crafts, textiles, and tourism. They could try on traditional attire, experience henna artistry, and engage in cultural awareness projects, like the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” environmental campaign.
A special play zone for kids added a family-friendly atmosphere to the event, while dynamic hosts kept the energy high throughout the day.
A Bridge Between Cultures
Bharat Mela ran from noon until sunset, offering free entry and creating a cultural village where Indian and Kuwaiti elements merged beautifully. It wasn’t just a festival; it stood as a symbol of cultural diplomacy. The event showcased India’s vibrant traditions, while deepening bonds of friendship between the two nations.
The Indian Embassy thanked all sponsors, performers, volunteers, and visitors for their efforts in making Bharat Mela 2026 a memorable celebration of unity and shared human connections.
