The colorful Festival of India – Bharat Utsav wrapped up in Moscow on July 13, pulling in an impressive 825,000 visitors over nine days. This festival was part of the “Summer in Moscow” initiative, shining a spotlight on Indian culture with more than 500 events and featuring over 150 artists and craftsmen from across India.
Both locals and tourists enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. The festival was a fantastic way to experience India’s rich heritage through music, dance, food, and art. Several Indian states like Delhi, Kerala, and Rajasthan participated, bringing their unique flavors and talents to the forefront.
Visitors had the chance to join yoga classes, watch traditional dance performances, and enjoy lively Bollywood shows. Food stalls offered a wide range of dishes, from vegetarian delights to spicy meat options. Special treats like masala tea and fresh Indian mangoes added to the experience. An Indian goods fair showcased exquisite items like Kashmir pashmina shawls and blue pottery from Rajasthan.
Interactive zones let guests try on traditional saris, apply henna, and explore Indian painting techniques. Meditation sessions and cultural talks hosted by Russian instructors further enriched the cultural exchange, showcasing how diverse traditions can coexist and celebrate together.
Moscow’s City Tourism Committee noted the festival’s success in enhancing the city’s image as a tourist hotspot. Currently, India ranks second among non-CIS countries for visitors to Moscow. A remarkable 59% of Indian tourists prefer Indian cuisine, making the festival a comforting experience.
Recent surveys show that one in four Indian travelers are keen to visit Moscow, appreciating its welcoming vibe compared to other European cities. Events like Bharat Utsav reinforce Moscow’s status as a culturally rich and inviting destination.
