Get ready to celebrate the Year of the Snake on the University of Kansas campus! Everyone is welcome to join a free Lunar New Year event from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. this Thursday at the Kansas Union. This holiday is significant in China and many East Asian countries.

This year, we mark the start of the Year of the Snake, one of the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac. Each year brings a new animal, influencing the celebrations and traditions.

The evening promises to be lively, featuring a variety of performances. You’ll see acts by KU students, faculty, and local artists, including the Lawrence Art Center’s Chinese Dance youth group, Tatsumaki Yosakoi, Wanwan Cai, KU Karisma, and KU Unity Hip Hop.

Aside from the performances, there will be engaging activities like Japanese storytelling, raffle prizes, and bingo. Several booths will explore East Asian culture, allowing attendees to learn and interact. Don’t miss out on delicious snacks, including dumplings, spring rolls, and sushi, while supplies last.
