Experience True Romance with Julia Stiles’ Direction in ‘Wish You Were Here’

LOS ANGELES — Julia Stiles, known for her roles in films like “Save the Last Dance” and “10 Things I Hate About You,” is stepping into the director’s seat with her new movie, “Wish You Were Here.” This film, based on Renee Carlino’s novel, explores the journey of love and self-discovery.

The story follows Charlotte, played by Isabelle Fuhrman, who dives into a night of romance with a stranger. When that perfect moment abruptly ends, she finds herself on a quest for meaning in her life. Charlotte’s journey reveals unexpected secrets that change her perspective.

Mena Massoud, who plays Adam, describes the film as a heartfelt indie project. He says it stands out in today’s cinema, especially after the collective struggles faced in recent years. Massoud believes this film is a great way for people to connect with their emotions.

Gabby Kono-Abdy, portraying Helen, adds that viewers will likely find a piece of themselves in the characters. She believes the film inspires audiences to take risks in life or cherish their loved ones even more.

While “Wish You Were Here” centers on love, it also touches on themes of grief and loss, profoundly resonating with Fuhrman, whose mother battled breast cancer. Fuhrman emphasizes the film’s message about the importance of being present with the people we care about. She hopes it offers hope amid sorrow.

Working with Stiles was a highlight for Fuhrman, Kono-Abdy, and Massoud. They appreciate her experience and leadership, which creates a supportive environment on set. Massoud praises Stiles as someone who keeps the team grounded.

Although this marks Stiles’ directorial debut, she’s excited about directing more films in the future while balancing her acting career. She believes that her experiences on set have prepared her for this new role, and she acknowledges the challenges women directors have faced in Hollywood.

Stiles reflects on the influence of early female directors on her work. She credits filmmakers like Susan Seidelman for paving the way, hoping for more recognition of female filmmakers moving forward.

In a heartfelt message to those impacted by the wildfires in the Los Angeles area, Stiles expresses her solidarity, reminding everyone that the entertainment community is united in support.

“Wish You Were Here” features a talented cast, including Isabelle Fuhrman, Mena Massoud, Jimmie Fails, Gabby Kono-Abdy, Jennifer Grey, and Kelsey Grammer. The film is currently showing in theaters.
