Kaistha pointed out that while some countries issued advisories for their citizens to remain cautious, the overall effect seems minimal. Subhash Goel, another tourism expert, echoed this sentiment, suggesting a slight drop—around 4 to 5 percent—in foreign arrivals due to these advisories.
The U.S. Embassy in India alerted its citizens about the blast, advising them to avoid crowded areas like the Red Fort. The Indian government is on high alert, urging everyone to stay vigilant.
Lindy Cameron, the British High Commissioner to India, expressed her concern and emphasized the importance of following local authority instructions. Rajan Sehgal, of the Travel Agents Association, believes the domestic tourism effect will last a week or two, especially since international visitors usually come during the winter months.
In looking at tourism trends, India saw 1,09,30,355 foreign tourists in 2019, dropping to 64,37,467 in 2022. However, the numbers have been bouncing back, with approximately 99,51,722 expected in 2024. The top sources of tourism include the United States, Bangladesh, and the United Kingdom.
While incidents like these can cause temporary concern, the resilience of tourism in Delhi is notable.
