BOSTON – The Boston University field hockey team is gearing up for an exciting 2025 season with 11 home games at New Balance Field.

The season kicks off on Friday, August 29, when the Terriers take on Providence at 4 p.m., right after the school’s matriculation ceremony. This marks the start of BU’s 48th varsity season.

The Terriers will face five opponents from last year’s NCAA Tournament early in the season. They’ll host Vermont on September 5 and head to Massachusetts on September 7. Local rivalries heat up as BU welcomes Boston College on September 14 and Harvard on October 6. They’ll also meet the defending Patriot League champion, Lafayette, on October 24.

Most of BU’s early matches will be at home. From September 12 to September 28, they’ll face Quinnipiac, American, Bryant, and New Hampshire. The match against American on September 19 marks their first Patriot League contest.

In league play, the Terriers will welcome Bucknell on October 11, with road games scheduled against Holy Cross on September 26 and Lehigh on October 4. The regular season concludes at Colgate on November 1.

Additionally, there are non-conference battles lined up, including a home game against Brown on October 13 and away games at Maine on October 18 and Northeastern on October 26.

Preseason scrimmages against Maine on August 14 and Boston College on August 21 will help the team prepare for the season ahead.

The Patriot League Championship takes place on November 6 and 8 at the top seed’s venue, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the season.

In recent years, college field hockey has become increasingly popular. According to a 2022 NCAA report, participation in women’s field hockey has grown by over 15% in the last decade. This growth suggests that many young athletes are drawn to the sport, leading to greater competition and talent at the collegiate level.
