Pelham Memorial High School’s Science Research Program dazzled at their annual senior symposium. This year’s event, held on January 15, showcased the hard work of 28 seniors. It brought together families, friends, and community members in the PMHS auditorium.
Students can join this program as early as 9th grade, continuing their research journey through to senior year. The symposium marks the peak of their dedicated effort, allowing them to present their findings to a supportive crowd.
Among the fascinating projects featured were:
- “The prey size of Theropod dinosaurs: Using the arm measurements of Theropod dinosaurs and comparing them to Felidae” by Christopher Miklitsch
- “Optimizing Novel Therapeutics Targeting Cytomegalovirus Entry to Effectively Inhibit Virus Proliferation” by Kira Findikyan
- “Icarus: A Mass Reproducible 3D-Printed, Low-Cost UAV for Environmental Monitoring” by Malachy Pearlman
Malachy Pearlman shared his enthusiasm, saying, “The Science Research family has been such an incredible community to be part of. Exploring my passions here has been unforgettable!”
Steven Beltecas, the program director, expressed his pride in the students and the event’s turnout. “With over 300 attendees, it was exciting to see the auditorium filled with energy. Our students presented their original research with such passion,” he said.
Beltecas also thanked AMPLIFY, a nonprofit that sponsored the event’s dinner, for their generous support. He noted that underclassmen left feeling inspired and eager to enhance their own projects by learning from the seniors.
This annual symposium not only highlights student achievements but also strengthens the community’s connection to science and innovation.
