Explore Global Opportunities: Experience the World with McNeese Study Abroad

Jazmin Winford, a senior at McNeese State University, has returned to campus this fall after spending a semester at Tampere University in Finland. “I always wanted to study in Europe, especially somewhere with a real winter,” she shared.

As a business major from Iowa, Jazmin took diverse classes such as urban economics, digital marketing, and sustainable business practices. She found communication easy since most people in Finland speak English. “The workload was similar to McNeese,” she explained, highlighting the emphasis on research and writing.

Jazmin wasn’t alone in her journey. As an international student, she had a mentor to help her adjust to life in a new country. She also bonded with both American and international students. “Making friends wasn’t hard. All international students have a common ground, and everyone is open,” she said.

One of her favorite experiences was witnessing the Northern Lights. Jazmin noted the fascinating change in daylight hours, noting, “When I arrived, the sun rose at 10 a.m. and set at 2 p.m., but by the time I left, there was almost constant daylight.”

Studying abroad can be affordable. Through the ISEP Exchange, McNeese students pay about the same tuition, housing, and meal costs as they do at home. There are options for every major, allowing students to apply to multiple universities across the globe.

Other McNeese students are also set to study abroad this fall. Ally McCall, an English literature major, will be heading to Sevilla, Spain, eager to learn Spanish and travel. Kenzie Berry, studying accounting, will explore Tartu University in Estonia, while Adrian Snell is excited to experience Germany’s culture at Leibniz University.

These students encourage others to consider studying abroad. Jazmin emphasized, “Don’t ignore the urge to travel. It builds confidence and connections.” Since returning, she has made new friends and is even looking towards pursuing a master’s degree in Europe.
