Explore National Nutrition Month: How Healthy Eating Brings Veterans Together | VA Ann Arbor Healthcare

Every March, dietitians celebrate National Nutrition Month®. This event focuses on teaching people about nutrition so they can make better food choices that fit their lives. The theme for 2025 is “Food Connects Us.”

Food plays a big role in how we connect with our culture, family, friends, and community. This March, think about how you can deepen those connections through food:

  • Share a meal with someone. Cook a family favorite or try a recipe from a friend.
  • Join a cooking class to pick up new skills. Check with your local VA for Healthy Teaching Kitchen opportunities, or explore their YouTube channel.
  • Discover where your food comes from. Visit farmers’ markets or local farms to connect with your food sources.
  • Sign up for a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program to enjoy fresh produce from local farms.
  • Learn about seasonal fruits and veggies. You could start a personal or community garden to grow them.
  • Take your time when eating. Use all your senses to truly enjoy your meal.
  • Try a new food, like kale, almonds, salmon, or avocado. You can find dietitian-approved recipes online.
