Explore Sikkim’s Newest Tourist Gem: CM Inaugurates Cho La and Dok La Under Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan Initiative!

The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, has recently opened the border destinations of Cho La and Dok La to tourists. This initiative is part of the Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan program, which aims to promote responsible tourism and boost development in remote areas.

Tamang highlighted how this initiative connects with the broader goal of showcasing India’s rich heritage and battlefields. Coordinated by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Tourism, Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan seeks to enhance socio-economic growth in border communities.

Tamang stressed the importance of focusing on the most remote regions through the Vibrant Villages Programme. This program aims to prioritize development in lesser-known areas, benefiting local communities. He noted that the swift progress in border areas is thanks to the joint efforts of both central and state agencies.

“Our idea is to develop the last village first,” Tamang said. He credited the Indian Army and the Tourism Department for their collaboration in launching Cho La and Dok La under this initiative. The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to the Indian government and the army for their support in improving infrastructure and promoting safe, sustainable tourism.

A recent trend in border tourism shows a growing interest in these areas. According to a 2022 report by the Ministry of Tourism, visits to border regions have increased by over 40% in the past year. This surge reflects travelers’ desire to explore unique landscapes and cultures.

Moreover, the Indian Army has actively supported tourism efforts by organizing events like the Supercar Rally in Sikkim, which fosters better connectivity and promotes the region as a travel destination.

Opening these border attractions is expected to significantly boost tourism, enhance local connectivity, and contribute to the overall development of Sikkim’s border areas. As more visitors come, the government hopes to see positive changes in the livelihoods of the local people.
