In a significant move to upgrade India’s rail system, the Ministry of Railways recently announced that 144 Vande Bharat train services are now running across the electrified broad gauge network as of August 7, 2025. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared this information in the Rajya Sabha.
Vande Bharat trains are semi-high-speed services created by Indian Railways to enhance the passenger experience and improve safety. These trains have several impressive features, such as quick acceleration, the Kavach collision protection system, and automatic plug doors. They also offer comfortable seating with reclining options and mobile charging sockets at every seat.
Additionally, Vande Bharat trains include mini pantries stocked with hot cases and deep freezers, and they provide special lavatories for Divyangjan passengers. The design aims to ease congestion on popular routes while remaining affordable and safe.
According to the minister, more than 3.9 crore passengers have used Vande Bharat trains in the financial years 2024-25 and up to June 2025. This shows a growing interest in this travel option, reflecting a positive trend in rail transport.
Experts suggest that investing in modern rail systems like Vande Bharat can significantly improve public transport efficiency. In fact, studies have shown that upgrading rail networks can reduce travel times and attract more passengers, ultimately benefiting the economy.
