Explore the Exciting Spring Arts Season at W&M: A Diverse Array of Entertainment Awaits!

WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary Office of the Arts is excited to announce upcoming spring events for the inaugural William & Mary Presents! season. This spring, enjoy a variety of performances like American Roots concerts, a take on Hamlet, a dance tribute to The Beatles, and engaging masterclasses.

Kicking off the season on January 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Arts Center Concert Hall is a concert featuring Benjamin Verdery and the Ulysses String Quartet. This performance emphasizes the rich diversity in American music, highlighting works by guitarist Verdery and violinist Christina Bouey.

From February 3-7, Actors From The London Stage will be showcasing Hamlet, with a performance scheduled for February 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall’s Glenn Close Theatre. This esteemed company has been delighting audiences since 1975, making it one of the longest-running touring Shakespeare groups globally.

On February 8, at 7:30 p.m., enjoy a concert by Grammy-winning Ranky Tanky in the Glenn Close Theatre. This band celebrates Gullah culture, bringing to life the musical traditions that emerged from African American communities in the coastal South.

Catch the award-winning quintet Goitse on February 23 at 2 p.m. in the MAC Concert Hall. Their performance will feature a delightful mix of original works and traditional Irish music.

Bluegrass fans will not want to miss Michael Cleveland, performing on March 1 at 7:30 p.m. His music, known for its deep roots and creative improvisation, will surely resonate with audiences in the MAC Concert Hall.

On March 21, the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra will breathe life into classic silent films through live music and sound effects. This unique event takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenn Close Theatre and is co-presented with the Ampersand International Arts Festival.

Two-time Grammy-winner Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience will deliver an electrifying concert on April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the MAC Concert Hall, showcasing Zydeco music infused with various contemporary genres.

Mark Morris Dance Group will honor The Beatles’ iconic album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, with a performance called Pepperland on May 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenn Close Theatre. The choreographed dance will feature both original music and arrangements from the beloved album.

On May 7 at 7:30 p.m., Edgar Meyer, an award-winning bassist, will perform with violinist Tessa Lark and cellist/composer Joshua Roman. Their concert will include pieces from Bach and original works by Meyer in the MAC Concert Hall.

The Charles Center Arts Masterclass Series, supported by the Elliot E. and Helen Y. Cohen Forum Endowment, aims to connect professional artists with the Williamsburg community. This series will feature masterclasses by Verdery, the Ulysses String Quartet, and the Mark Morris Dance Group. A detailed schedule can be found on the Charles Center website.
